A photography exhibition entitled Mongolia: Images from the Steppes will be presented by London dealer Rossi & Rossi Ltd, 13 Old Bond Street, London W1, from 17 May to 9 June 2006. This exhibition is part of the year-long festivities marking the Œ800th anniversary of Mongolian Statehood‚ which is being celebrated this year by Mongolian communities all over the world. 2006 marks the 800th anniversary of the founding of the Great Empire created by Genghis Khan in 1206. Twenty-five photographs, taken in Mongolia by renowned Italian photographer Enzo Obiso in the summer of 1991 at a time when Communist dictatorship had only just ended, will be on display at Rossi & Rossi Ltd, 13 Old Bond Street, London W1.

The immense spaces of the Mongol steppes are transformed through the artist‚s lens. Against the background of a static landscape, clouds, horses, motorbikes and people create a visual dialogue that connects man to his inner world, to history and to nature. The results are metaphysical images of great intensity, suspended between external and internal space, capturing the deep sensibilities of a world in transformation.

Enzo Obiso was born in Sicily in 1954 and studied photography at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Turin. Based in Turin, he has been exhibiting since 1974 in commercial and public galleries. His work has been included in various public collections, such as the Galleria Nazionale d‚Arte Moderna in Rome, the FNAC collection in Parigi and the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin. At the centre of his work is the human being represented through landscape, places, objects and the body.

Anna Maria Rossi founded Rossi & Rossi Ltd in London in 1985 and was joined by her son Fabio in 1988.
