thebroken - episode no. 1

Welcome to thebroken, a show unlike your typical computer show. It's a little shady...it's a little underground...and a little borderline illegal. In this episode Kevin and Dan war drive down San Francisco and demonstrate how to crack all those pesky encrypted wi-fi signals. Kevin also shows how to get free pizza4life through a little social engineering. Last but not least, resident hacker of thebroken, Ramzi, drops some knowledge on warez.

mondomedeusah art: Farouk Hosny: Paintings

Blfarouk

2007-12-30 until 2008-01-10
Zamalek Art Gallery
Cairo, Egypt

Zamalek Art Gallery in Cairo exhibits Paintings by Farouk Hosny from December 30, 2007 through January 10, 2008. Farouk Hosny was born in Alexandria in 1942. He studied for five years at the city's Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1964. He then worked as the Director of El- Anfoushy Culture Palace, during which time he painted landscapes and seascapes depicting Alexandria. In the late 1960s, while he was on a trip to France, Hosny began painting abstractions.

From 1971 to 1978 he lived in Paris, where he served as Director of the Egyptian Culture Center. During that period, in 1971, Hosny was awarded the National Prize of the Cagnes-sur-Mer Festival in Southern France. In 1979, after a short stay in Cairo, Hosny moved to Rome as Vice Director and then Director of the Egyptian Academy in Rome. He continued to paint and received positive attention from Italian cities when his work was shown on several occasions in private and public spaces. In 1987 he returned to Cairo when he was appointed to the position of Minister of Culture.

Hosny has exhibited widely in Europe and in the Middle East, including the Two Worlds Festival in Spoleto in 1985, the Citadel in Naples 1986, the National Museum in Bahrain in 1992, the UNESCO Organization in Paris for the fiftieth anniversary of UNESCO in 1995, Rowshan Art Hall in Jeddah in 1995, Le CaRROUSEL Du Louvre in Paris in 1997-98.

In 1998, his work was shown at the Palais Harach Museum in Vienna, the Sursouk Museum in Beirut, Lebanon, the arts Museum of Sharge in the United Arab Emirates, the Arts National Museum in Kuwait City, and the Meguro Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.

In 1994 Hosny received an Honorary Doctorate from Soka University in Japan. In 1998 the artist was selected as one of the seventy pioneer artists worldwide for a special exhibition in Paris organized by the French art magazine Beaux-Arts. In May 1999 he was elected to the membership of the European Academy of Science and Art in Vienna.

Hosny currently resides in Cairo as Minister of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

art: Call for Artists:Composting Good and Evil - Redesign for Sanctimonious Sinners

2007-12-31 until 2008-02-10
Ethical Metalsmiths
San Francisco, CA USA

Composting Good and Evil: Redesign for Sanctimonious Sinners. A virtual exhibition open to all artists. What would happen if we tossed our smug habits into a heap? What if we composted our shameless sins, our saintly intentions and our fertile imaginations and pledged to use the resulting fecund glory to redesign and nurture the world? Imagine the change that could grow from a pile of temptation, convenience, guilt, hope and inspiration! Join this collaborative effort to transform your compost of good and evil into art for an earthshaking exhibition.

Using any of the following words as a guide, show us a piece of your (recycled) mind and (reprogrammed) heart. Reflect, reform, reconsider, resolve, relate, revise, rework, renew, repair, repurpose, reconnect, review, regret, renounce, reproach, react, rethink, reuse, reduce and recycle.

Ethical Metalsmiths will feature the exhibition on its Web site beginning March 15, 2008 for an extended period of time. The exhibition will premiere on the campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, on Friday, March 7, 2008, during the Society of North American Goldsmiths annual conference. Digital images will be viewed on an outdoor, billboard-size, high resolution LED display.

You can work small or big, but we must have a high quality digital image. Submissions that are consistent with the theme and purpose and meet the image requirements will be included. The use of recycled and repurposed materials is encouraged, but not mandatory.

The deadline for entries is February 10, 2008.

Details are available online at www.EthicalMetalsmiths.org

Ethical Metalsmiths is a non-profit organization leading metalsmiths and jewelers in addressing the complex environmental and social issues associated with mining.
