The first volume of a bi-annual art publication, in which each issue is devoted to a particular monetary/creative collaborator. This particular volume visually exhibits the manic influences behind the Freshjive clothing brand. Chapter headings include "How to be Filled with Spirit," "Flowers of Discontent," "The Phantom Seditionist," and "Very Mental," which may or may not give you an idea. Photography, design, found porn with gold stars over the naughty bits. It features a black-leatherette, gold-embossed, biblical-style cover, with a double-sided fold-out poster, a tear-out blacklight felt graphic, and many art treats. |
Street Magazine comes from the makers of Fruits, you know, those crazy books that have pictures of Japanese kids in insane outfits. So basically it's along the same lines, each issue features pages and pages of photographs of people with unique senses of fashion. It's a creative, entertaining, and maybe even inspring magazine for everyone!

{creative arts} Pixar: 20 Year of Animation
2005-12-16 until 2006-02-06
Museum of Modern Art
New York, NY, USA
In keeping with the Museum’s long tradition of presenting animation, this is the most extensive gallery exhibition that MoMA has ever devoted to the genre. Featuring over 500 works of original art on loan for the first time from Pixar Animation Studios, the show includes paintings, concept art, sculptures, and an array of digital installations. These works reveal the intricate, hands-on processes behind Pixar’s computer-generated films-including Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, and numerous shorts.
The exhibition also includes a complete retrospective of Pixar films. Demonstrating the symbiotic relationship between traditional and digital media pioneered by the studio over its twenty-year history, Pixar: 20 Years of Animation is a tribute to the artists whose work has reinvented the genre.
The Yoshiko and Akio Morita Gallery features the world premiere of two media pieces that embody the intersection of art and science that distinguishes computer animation. Artscape, a wide screen projection created by artist/director Andrew Jimenez and sound designer Gary Rydstrom, invites viewers to experience, in the context of a digital installation, much of the handcrafted art shown elsewhere in the exhibition. Zoetrope is a dynamic installation, modeled on pre-cinema technology, which rotates character sculptures under a strobe light to simulate continuous motion.
Organized by Steven Higgins, Curator, and Ronald S. Magliozzi, Assistant Curator, with Jenny He, Research Assistant, Department of Film and Media.
The exhibition is made possible by Intel Corporation and Porsche AG. Additional support is provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. Media sponsorship is provided by Wired Magazine.

The 14th annual ART SALON AT THE BAY, curated by Cape Town art consultant, Rose Korber promises to live up to the high reputation of its previous incarnations. The exhibition opens this year on the 23 December 2005 and runs until 12 January 2006 in the newly refurbished display area at the Bay Hotel, Victoria Road, Camps Bay, Cape Town. The Salon aims to present a varied and comprehensive overview of the current state of South African art. Featured artists include William Kentridge, Willie Bester, Sam Nhlengethwa, David Koloane, Conrad Botes, Colbert Mashile, Johann Louw, Robert Slingsby, Deborah Bell, Claudette Schreuders and Stephen Inggs.
Since its inception in 1992, the Art Salon has been a major enterprise, bringing together, under one roof, a large showcase of quality artworks, in various styles and media. This year's Salon sees a subtle shift towards more cutting-edge work, while still maintaining its backbone of 'classics', such as John Kramer, Erik Laubscher, Peter Bonney and Walter Meyer.
As well as the traditional genres of landscape and figurative painting, the Salon also features examples of some of the best sculpture and ceramics that include a remarkable triptych of figurative works in mild steel by Jaco Sieberhagen, a bronze horse and rider by Wilma Cruise and a powerful combination of a ‘ship/woman’ in ironwood, by Shepherd Ndodzu.
In keeping with the current trend towards the Contemporary, younger artists, such as Peter Eastman, John Murray, Trasi Henen, Ruan Hoffmann, Alastair Whitton, Francois van Reenen and Daniel Halter are well represented. In the photography section, leading South African photographers, David Goldblatt and Stephen Inggs, will be on view.
The top ceramic artists on this year's Art Salon include Barbara Jackson, Louise Gelderblom, Hennie Meyer, Heather Mills, Helen Vaughan, Wendy McLaghlan and Shirley Fintz.
According to Korber; 'This year's Salon is ‘leaner’ and more focused towards the demands of the contemporary collector and the newly refurbished display area at The Bay Hotel will enable the fine quality art to be shown at its very best.
